FAQ

WHO CAN APPLY?

Everyone! Outdoor Studio believes that anyone who is driven by ideas and passionate about creating is a “creative”. We are passionate about all disciplines and welcome interdisciplinary practices as well. So, whether you’re an emerging artist, an accountant by-day-photographer-by-night, or a budding entrepreneur, we would love for you to join us. Participants must be 19+.

DO YOU NEED PREVIOUS CAMPING OR OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE?

Not at all, you just need an open mind. While there will be outdoor activities scheduled on the trip, we will ensure there are guides and instructors to lead all activities.

WHAT ARE THE SAFETY AND RISKS?

Camping outdoors has inherent risks (e.g. inclement weather, cooking over fires, watercraft, animals, transportation) and Outdoor Studio will take measures to ensure the safety of our participants, managing risks appropriately. If you have any specific concerns, feel free to e-mail us.

DO I HAVE TO WORK ON A PROJECT DURING STUDIO TIME?

All participants will be required to work on a creative project during the dedicated Studio Time on the trip, because our goal is to share with you the impact that being outdoors has on your creativity and work. What you work on is completely up to you (song, painting, dance, business plan etc.) and there will be an opportunity to showcase your work later on as part of our exhibition in 2018.

WHEN DO I NEED TO APPLY BY?

See Studio Trip page for details. Applications for the Rouge Park trip are due on June 7, 2017 at 11:59PM EST. Stay tuned for application details on the upcoming Algonquin Park trip in September 2017.

HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE SELECTED FOR THE TRIP?

The number of participants will vary by trip, based on campground and programming limitations. Typically, we will bring 8-10 participants on each trip.

WHAT IS THE FEE?

The fee will vary by trip. Please see Studio Trip page for details. Selected participants will be required to pay a 50% deposit to secure their spot, with the balance of fees due 1 month prior to start of the trip.

WHAT ART AND CREATIVE MATERIALS DO I BRING?

Bring any necessary materials for your medium (instruments, watercolours, drawing pencils, paper, cameras…etc.) Certain materials are more difficult to work with outdoors, so be sure to connect with us if you have any questions, and we will be happy to help.

WHAT OUTDOOR GEAR DO I BRING?

Selected applicants will receive a detailed gear list in advance of the trip. Generally, participants will need to bring a sleeping bag, hiking shoes, toiletries, and a range of clothing depending on the season.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ATTENDING AN OUTDOOR STUDIO TRIP?

In addition to experiencing a guided trip in the natural landscape, participants will connect with other creative professionals, learn from a mentoring artist, and deepen their creative process through connection with the outdoors. We are open to everyone who wants to explore creativity in the outdoors, so this trip is equally as fitting for someone further along in their creative career, as it is for someone who wants to dedicate time to work on a creative passion project. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to showcase their work at an exhibition in 2018.
